My Collection--"Russ Berrie Figurines"

Today I'm sharing my collection of "Russ Berrie" figurines. This is probably my favorite collection and it is continually growing. I never intended to collect these until I found my first one at a thrift shop. They have the cutest and funniest sayings and they are very cheap. After I bought my first one, I started finding them everywhere. I love when I spot one at a garage sale or at Goodwill. I love the coloring of them and all of the silly detail. They are made out of a plastic resin-type material and are actually called "Sillisculpts". They were created in 1968 by R&W Berrie, a company that sold novelty items which sold from dime-store counters and in gift shops and were aimed at impulse shoppers.
I actually had more than this but I have given some away as gifts. In total, I had about 23 or so to begin with and I've only been collecting them for about 3-4 years. It's very easy to find "knock-offs" of these but you can easily tell by the weight and color. These little statues are actually pretty heavy because they are filled with sand and at the bottom they have a rubber stopper and are felt-lined. Also, on the back they will have the year stamp and the Russ Berrie & Co. logo.
I can't wait to keep finding more of these funny little guys to add to my collection!
These three and the pic below are my favorites.

I believe the first one is a "Paula" brand figurine that
was a similar kind also from the 70s. You can tell by the thicker base.

1)The one in the middle was given to me as a
gift and it's a "Paula" brand instead of
Russ Berrie, but I still love it.
You can see what I was saying now about the
coloring and that one is a lot lighter.
2)The porcelain dog on the end probably isn't
considered a "Sillisculpt" but it still

 has the Russ Berrie stamp
so I bought him anyways.

All of mine shown are from the late 60's and
early 70's. The darker colored ones are the older ones.

P.S. Do you have any Sillisculpts?

  2. I think you are the only person I know that likes these things lol. Now I will think of you every time I see one. It's a shame they are hefty (and that shipping prices are going up AGAIN) otherwise they'd be shuttled your way

  4. I used to have some of these when I was a kid! Sadly, I got rid of them a long long time ago. I definitely had a "I love you this much" one.
    Love them!

  7. Oh my god, what a great collection! I've seen one or two of these figurines at my grandma's. I didn't know exactly what they were, but I've since seen them at many a thrift store and just assumed they were like the Precious Moments of the 70s.

  9. I have seen these before, but I don't have any myself. There's a good chance that my grandma (the hoarding one) has a couple. I am amused by the "I'm Sorry" one. WHY IS IT STILL HAPPY LOOKING? haha

  10. I don't know whether to find them completely adorable or be creeped out by them, haha, but I'm creeped out by dolls in general. I really love those sayings though. So cute. xo
